Police catch up with drug and drink drivers

Limestone Coast police detected five drivers behaving poorly over the weekend.


About 10.25am on Friday police stopped a car on Williams Road, Millicent for the purpose of a driver test.


The driver recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.147. Checks revealed the driver, a 26-year-old man from Millicent, had a cancelled driver’s licence.


The man was reported for drink driving with a child under 16 present and drive disqualified. He was issued with a six-month loss of licence and will be summonsed to attend court at a later date.


About 12.50pm on Friday police stopped a car on Bay Road, Mount Gambier for the purpose of a driver test. The driver, a 47-year-old man from Mount Gambier, recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.152.


The man was reported for drink driving and issued with a 12-month instant loss of licence and his car was impounded for 28 days. He will be summonsed to attend in court at a later date.


About 4.15pm on Friday, police stopped a car on Wehl Street North, Mount Gambier.


A 52-year-old man from Mount Gambier submitted to a drug test and provided a positive result to cannabis. He was issued a three-month immediate loss of licence and may be reported pending an analysis of his sample by Forensic SA.


About 9.35pm on Friday, police stopped a car on Standish Street, Port MacDonnell, for a driver test.


The driver, a 19-year-old man from Port MacDonnell, recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.094. He was reported for drink driving, breach of provisional licence conditions, fail to keep left and drive unregistered.


The man was issued with a six-month instant loss of licence, and the car was impounded for 28 days.


About 1.30pm on Saturday, police stopped a car on Union Street, Mount Gambier.


A 41-year-old woman from Mount Gambier was drug tested where she returned a positive result to cannabis.


She was issued a three-month immediate loss of licence and may be reported pending an analysis of her sample by Forensic SA.
