Residents and visitors have wondered why the popular swimming pontoon is not in its customary position at anchor off Robe’s Town Beach.
An explanation has been provided by Robe District Council chief executive Nat Traeger.
“We understand that residents may be eagerly awaiting the return of Robe’s swimming pontoon for the summer season,”Ms Traeger said.
“The decision to delay the pontoon’s deployment comes after careful consideration of several safety and risk concerns.
“Our primary responsibility is to ensure the safety of both our community and staff, and at this time, we have identified issues that need to be addressed before the pontoon can be safely launched.
“We are working closely with relevant experts and authorities, including our insurers, to address risk related matters and find the safest path forward.
“We are exploring potential solutions, including collaborating with other councils and the Local Government Association’s Mutual
Liability Scheme to gather advice, share experiences, and ensure that any future maintenance and installation activities are done safely and in line with proper protocols.
“We appreciate your understanding and patience as we work through these important safety considerations.
“Our goal is to have the pontoon safely back in the water as soon as we can ensure it meets the necessary safety standards.”
