Practice pays off for juniors

Round 3 of the Southern Ports Tennis Associaton’s junior competition saw tennis weather finally appear – and what a difference that makes for the players and the spectators.

Naracoorte/Padthaway Blue hosted Naracoorte White.

After the doubles it was two sets to one White’s way.

There were lots of rallies and great tennis with some close games between Toby Longbottom and Max Lush.

Anna Orton and Lily Wilkin also had a great match 6-4 Anna’s way.

Naracoorte White won the day 41 games to 23.

Naracoorte/Padthaway Yellow were also hosting Naracoorte Red on Saturday in a pretty close day that went Red’s way 36-31.

The match of the day was played between Fliss and Louis Orton and Sid Hawker and Angus Reading in the doubles, going the Ortons’ way 6-5.

Lucindale Country Club was a sight with the sun out and many players experiencing lawn tennis for the first time.

Lucindale Koalas hosted Millicent/Beachport and while the final score of 45-18 to Koalas was one-sided there were some great matches where spectators were not sure of the result from the sidelines.

Kingston won 43 games to 26 against Lucindale Roos at Lucindale.

Paige Pinchbeck and Harry Robinson had a long match but got the win 6-3 over against Jacob Mules and Hudson Menz.

It was great to see such strong hard hitting from all four players.

They all played very long and competitive singles matches, with Jacob winning 6-4 over Paige and Harry getting up 6-4 over Husdon in a marathon match.

Jack Startling also had a close singles match winning 6-4 over Jimmy Buckett.

It was clear that many of these juniors have been doing tennis coaching with some sensational tennis being played.

The ladder is starting to take shape with the top 3 undefeated as we head into round 4.

Match of the round will be 1st place Naracoorte White heading down to take on 3rd placed Kingston on their home courts.

Lucindale Roos and Naracoorte Red will also both be hungry for a win to stay in touch of the top of the ladder.
