Pride on the line for Tigers

Kybybolite v North Gambier Grand Final A

The stage is set for Kybybolite and North Gambier to face off once again in the Limestone Coast Women’s Football League grand final.

This will be the sides’ third meeting this season – all of which have taken place in the last four weeks.

Kyby has had North’s number so far this season, beating them twice, with their last meeting being the qualifying final where Kyby had their measure by 27 points.

The history runs deep between these two sides as they will be facing off in back-to-back grand finals.

Kyby got the best of North last season, winning in the grand final by only four points.

This season these two sides have been the clear standouts with Kyby heading into this game undefeated and North going in with only two losses.

Given that Kyby has gotten the edge over North for the last two seasons, North Gambier should be very keen to hit the field and redeem themselves.

North’s key players in the midfield this season have been Tess Andrews and Sarah Edwards.

Both have been solid contributors and also were selected in the team of the season.

Andrews and Edwards are coming off great games last weekend and will be looking to take that form into this match.

LOOKING FOR TWO: Kate Edmonds and Kybybolite will look to go back to back on Sunday in Casterton.

Kyby’s key player will be their ruck Jedah Huf who has been dominant in the contest all season and creates plenty of opportunities across the ground.

Up forward Kyby’s Taylor Ryan will also be in for a big game.

Ryan has been a stellar player in the forward line this year, also named in the team of the season.

So far she sits on 15 goals this season and leads her side in goals.

Ryan will be a player that Kyby’s midfielders will be looking to hit up when going forward.

Kybybolite coach Chris Boston is looking forward to the game on Sunday and said the side was ready for the challenge.

“The side is prepared for a tough game, they are ready to finish off what has been a good season,” he said.

Boston believes there is no pressure in playing back to back grand finals.

“There’s no more pressure than our opposition, we both played in last year’s grand final,” he said.

Boston will be looking at many players in the side to have a standout game.

“The best thing about our team is that we do not rely on one or two to be at their best, if someone is being held then another pops up to contribute,” he said.

“Jedah Huf, Kate Edmonds and Dellie Brown will be key in the midfield and Taylor Ryan and Georgie Stoot will be focal points up forward with Anna Davies and Tahlia Barnett key in defence.”

FLAG UP FOR GRABS: Casterton and Kongorong will take the field this Sunday in the B Grand Final.

Casterton Sandford v Kongorong Grand Final B

Casterton Sandford will host Kongorong this Sunday in the B grand final.

The Cats are coming off a hard fought win last week in Millicent while Kongorong rested up after their qualifying final victory.

These sides have only crossed paths once this season, back in round two where the Hawks got the better of the Cats, winning by 17 points.

Kongorong ended up having a slightly better season than the Cats, finishing one spot higher in sixth and winning one more game.

With this match being played in Casterton it should give the Cats a slight advantage as they are undefeated at home this season.

Heading into this game Kongorong’s form is not the best, as they have only won two out of their last five games with the Cats having the same record.

In defence Kongorong’s Sarah Lucas will play a key role in this match.

All season Lucas has been very reliable down back and is a key piece in the Hawks backline as well as being selected in the team of the season.

For the Cats Phoebe Carlin is coming off a great game last weekend and will be looking to have another solid contribution on Sunday.

Last week Carlin helped her side get the win with a three goal performance and has been a consistent player for the Cats all season.
