Priest bid fond farewell

An eight-month stint of leading Anglican congregations at Millicent, Penola, Kalangadoo, Robe and Kingston has come to an end for locum priest Alex Bainton.

He came out of retirement at Victor Harbor to spend one week per month in the South East.

The arrangement began in March and has concluded because new resident parish priest Wayne Landford is coming to Millicent this month.

Father Alex’s duties have included Sunday and mid-week church services, preparing sermons, visiting parishioners and others in need and calling at aged care homes.

His outreach to the sick and the bereaved has been appreciated.

Ordained in 1976, Father Alex has served the church in four parishes in suburban Adelaide as well as Kangaroo Island, Strathalbyn and Victor Harbor.

His wife Cheryl supports him in his ministry and they have adult children.
