Penola Catholic parish priest Father Michael Romeo conducted his final service at his base at St Joseph’s Church on Sunday morning.
Following the Mass, there was an informal BYO brunch in the grounds of the adjacent Mary MacKillop Memorial School.
COVID protocols meant a more formal farewell function could not be held.
Father Michael has also had oversight of the churches at Kalangadoo, Robe and Kingston.
In all, Father Michael has served the church in this region for eight years as he was previously the assistant priest of the Mount Gambier and Millicent parishes.
Last month, Adelaide Archdiocese Archbishop Dr Patrick O’Regan announced Father Michael as the new parish priest of Payneham in suburban Adelaide.
In addition to this role, Archbishop O’Regan has asked Father Michael to take on a mission of studies to begin preparations to study for a licentiate in Canon Law.
The incoming parish priest of the Parish of Penola is Father Arul Dev, currently assistant priest at Noarlunga Seaford and Willunga.
