Limestone Coast primary producers can now apply for the 2022/23 Adaptive Agriculture Grant Program, which supports primary production industries and groups to adapt to changing climatic and market conditions through sustainable practices.
Funding is available through the Limestone Coast Landscape Board for local agriculture groups implementing projects to build resilience and respond to the threats and market opportunities created by climate change.
The grants also support initiatives aimed at addressing increased consumer demand for information on produce provenance and sustainable practices, as well as support for practices that improve and protect the condition of soil, biodiversity and vegetation.
This project is supported by the Limestone Coast Landscape Board through funding from the Federal Government’s National Landcare Program.
Limestone Coast Landscape Board Sustainable Primary Production Team Leader James Hall said grants would be awarded to projects and activities that support the principles of sustainable primary production.
“Projects such as hosting events or webinars, conducting field trials, demonstrations of innovative technology and producing communications could be eligible for funding,” he said.
The total available grant funding is $40,000, with a minimum application of $2500.
The grants are aimed at and open to agriculture, forestry and fishery groups including but not limited to primary production/farming system groups, local action planning groups, agricultural bureau groups, indigenous groups, as well as non-government or not-for-profit groups working to improve sustainable primary production.
“Past projects have helped local landholders and businesses build resilience in a changing climate and have investigated topics such as alternative pasture varieties, water efficiency use and security, soil carbon and innovative monitoring methods,” Mr Hall said.
“We’re excited to be supporting improved management of local natural resources and are looking forward to seeing what ideas are brought to life by this round of grants.”
