Dozens of South East residents proudly bear the Skeer surname and none more so than a farmer at Hatherleigh.
Chris Skeer is descended from the pioneering Skeers who arrived in the colony of South Australia in 1839 – just three years after its proclamation.
His research reveals they had left a small village in the English county of Kent to make a new home in Australia.
Mr Skeer is a member of the Millicent-based South East Family History Group and he will talk about his fundings at their February 27 meeting.
Photographs will accompany Mr Skeer’s talk.
He is a lifelong resident of Hatherleigh other than time at boarding school in Adelaide and then with his obligations as a National Serviceman.
This took him to the RAAF Shuttleworth base in Malaysia.
Among his community interests are the Liberal Party, Millicent Rotary Club and the South East [Ham] Radio group.
Premiership success came his way as a footballer and cricketer with the Hatherleigh clubs.
