With no eightball or and darts this week due to all pubs and clubs being forced to shut their doors to the pubic it will be interesting to see what Mount Gambier Eightball Association, South East Darts Association and South East Women’s Eightball League do in an attempt to catch up and rectify the situation as they head into the busy time of year.
A decision to extend the season creates havoc with finals and presentation dates, plus personal commitments and summer seasons pencilled in.
But if the missed rounds are skipped, it would be a disadvantage to those teams that have already played the top sides and an unfair advantage to clubs that miss any of those matches, so the ladder would not be a true indication of where teams have actually qualified.
The same goes for individual standings and the worst case scenario could see the South East Darts Association call it quits for the second year in a row and award the teams as they stand at this point in the minor rounds.
On the other hand, if things kind of come good, they could possibly jump straight into finals to have the best chance of getting through the season.
Sometime in August the German Club is planning to host a satellite qualifier limited to 16 players only for Big Guns which is the biggest singles tournament in the country.
The German Club held a satellite qualifier of the huge event for the first time in 2019 which was something totally different to anything the club had ever done before.
The club sent Sawan Naker, Chase Daley and Shawn Salmon to the competition where the grand-final winner’s prize included travel, accommodation and cash worth over $2000.
If Big Guns is cancelled, the German Club may alternatively run the fourth instalment of “Underground 101” – a 16 player only, double elimination invitational singles tournament.
