Quiet health achiever in spotlight

Thousands of patients, staff and visitors pass through the front doors of Millicent Hospital each year and their first point-of-contact is administration officer David Tully.

His excellent interpersonal skills led him to be nominated for the 2021 Limestone Coast Local Health Network Quiet Achiever Award.

Millicent Hospital has 140 employees and Mr Tully has worked there for almost four years.

“I’m proud to be part of a team who strive to deliver the best healthcare and services to the community,” Mr Tully said.

“My role at Millicent Hospital involves data entry, consumer service, various reception duties and interacting with visitors, patients, consumers and staff on a day-to-day basis.

“The best part of my job is the interaction with consumers and staff and I really enjoy helping people access the services they need.”

Senior hospital staff members at the Millicent Hospital have explained their reasons for nominating Mr Tully for the Quiet Achiever award.

“David is the hospital front line presence, he is the voice of switchboard, the first person members of the community come into contact with when entering or contacting the facility,” the staff members said.

“David provides the organisation with a very positive, friendly and helpful approach.

“We receive feedback on a daily basis about how pleasant and helpful he is, from a broad cross section of people.

“Even when under immense pressure David is always infallibly polite and friendly.

“David will go the extra mile to provide an exemplary level of service to everyone he comes into contact with and he is an invaluable member of the team.

“David’s ability to maintain a calm and friendly demeanour at all times is amazing.

“We have not ever heard of, or witnessed David reacting, conversing or presenting in any way other than with friendliness and helpfulness, this is a rare trait and should be celebrated.”

The senior staff members noted the increased workload placed on Mr Tully during the last two years.

“He has screened every person who enters the building, accepts all the facility stores and deliveries and takes phone calls for COVID swabs and vaccinations, whilst continuing to undertake all his normal duties-which have also increased due to increased presentations and data entry requirements,” the staff said.

“David has continued to be a welcoming face and voice for the organisation and we regularly receive feedback in regards to the positive approach he takes to his role.”

Back in 2019, Mr Tully was nominated in the Best Employee category in the annual Millicent Business Community Association Outstanding Business Awards.
