Noted entertainer Kasey Chambers is backing her fellow Millicent High old scholar Leith Forrest to become the Mayor of Wattle Range in 2044.
During an on-air interview with him on his Adelaide commercial radio station 5AA, Ms Chambers committed to performing at his Mayoral Inauguration Ball in Millicent 2044.
Securing Ms Chambers to head the bill is quite a coup as she has acquired a nation-wide profile in the past 30 years as a country music performer and recording artist.
Not only were the pair contemporaries at Millicent High, they are also closely related.
“Not sure if you know we’re cousins,” Mr Forrest said.
“Kasey’s grandfather Johnny and my grandfather Len – both deceased – were brothers.”
Other performers from his youth in Millicent set to play at the Mayoral Inauguration Ball are Christy Wallace and the Notorious Band comprising Emma Howell Phil Correll, Troy Varcoe and Joe Pece.
As part of a campaign to boost his profile in his hometown, Mr Forrest has given further support to a number of Millicent organisations.
Back in March, he was the master of ceremonies at the Millicent Football Netball Club’s Saints and Sinners Ball at the Millicent War Memorial Civic and Arts Centre.
Mr Forrest returned to his hometown of Millicent in May for two further engagements.
He was the guest speaker at the 60th anniversary luncheon of the Millicent Lions Club which was held at the Somerset Hotel.
With little down time, Mr Forrest then did a two-hour broadcasting session from 4pm on Millicent community radio station 5THE-FM where he is the patron.
