New data shows the number of payroll jobs in South Australia in the week ending November 12 was the equal highest on record.
Weekly Payroll Jobs and Wages data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics reveals SA is experiencing the fastest growth in the country, recording a 1.2% jump over the month to mid-November and 0.9% increase over the fortnight.
The strong result was driven by increases in mining (up 8.7% compared to the same week a year ago), professional, scientific and technical services (up 6.7%) and arts and recreation services (up 5.9%).
Employee wages in SA have increased 3.8% for the year – above the national rate of 3.6%.
It reinforces the latest job figures which show a record 897,100 South Australians now have a job, in seasonally adjusted terms.
The number of people in full-time work has hit 595,000 – another state record.
The number of full-time jobs grew by 7300 and is now almost 10,000 higher than during the state election in March.
The Weekly Payroll Jobs and Wages data is collected from the Australia Taxation Office using data from employers registered for Single Touch Payroll.
The ABS started publishing the updates in the early stages of the pandemic, to provide a timely indicator of the impact of COVID on the labour market.
The estimates are presented as an original series only and are not seasonally adjusted.
As such, they can be subject to variability depending on the time of the year.
