Records relating to the former Mount Gambier Gaol have been made more accessible to researchers.
The prison opened in 1866 and closed 129 years later.
Material relating to the prison is in the safe keeping of the Millicent-based South East Family History Group.
Group president Noel Boyle said he had recently updated the list of records held at its research centre.
“In our storage room we have a number of items from clubs et cetera they have placed in the care of the SEFHG because they have closed down,” Mr Boyle said.
“They have been placed into several large cabinets but a list of the items has not been updated for a while.
“I am trying to change that by placing them into boxes or the small ones into storage envelopes.
“When I have finished, I will have all the details to let people know what history we have stored away.”
As well as the former Mount Gambier Gaol, Mr Boyle has recorded items in storage from the Millicent Table Tennis Association, Millicent RSL Ladies Auxiliary and Millicent Jaycees.
The SEFHG also has research notes about Glencoe compiled by the late Pam O’Connor and ledgers from the closed Sebastopol Pinchgut sheep dip which was a cooperative venture run by local graziers.
