Red Cross extends care to pets

Red Cross Limestone Coast is barking up a new tree with its dog food initiative helping furry friends in need.

The humanitarian organisation has partnered with Animal Rescue Cooperative Outreach Service, Royal Canin, The PetBarn Foundation and Mini Kitty Commune to provide its clients with access to free dog food to ensure their four-legged friends can maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Dog food will be packaged in clean, recycled containers which clients can bring back to have refilled.

Red Cross has added the new program to the range of feminine hygiene in stock and Kellogg’s breakfast cereal which will be restocked shortly.

Red Cross regional service manager David Walshaw said the company recognised that if people were doing it tough at the moment due to a range of reasons it was likely their pets were too.

“Thank you to our amazing volunteers Lesley and Hayden, who have so generous supplied and decanted the product into smaller, more easily manageable packages for our clients.”

People are invited to visit the Red Cross Limestone Coast office at 49 Helen Street, Mount Gambier and see Olive on the front desk to obtain a couple of kilograms of pet food, no questions asked.

For residents outside of Mount Gambier please contact Red Cross on 8725 3622 for delivery upon the organisations next visit to your community.
