Regional arts centre opens doors to community creatives

Artists are being encouraged to grab their paintbrush, chalk or camera, as a unique opportunity is available to showcase their work to the community. The Portland Arts Centre (PAC) is currently inviting applications from artists residing in the Glenelg Shire to exhibit at the centre in 2022.

Individual artists and groups of artists can apply for two periods: May 5-July 3, 2022 or November 24-January 30, 2023. Arts and Culture Manager Susie Lyons said that showcasing and celebrating local visual artists was integral to the centre.

“Community art exhibitions are an important part of our annual ARTSGlenelg program,” she said. “They give our numerous talented artists and craftspeople in the Glenelg Shire the opportunity to exhibit in our foyer gallery and showcase their passion, as well as helping to enliven and enrich our community.

“We are calling on local artists, working in any media, to submit their works as part of the formal application process. “The two successful community artist exhibitions will feature in the ARTSGlenelg Season Program 2022. “A selection panel will assess all applications, comprising representatives from Regional Arts Victoria and Glenelg Shire Council’s Arts and Culture Unit. “We cannot wait to see what our local creatives come up with and the range of inspiring and thought-provoking exhibitions our community can enjoy in 2022.”

Artists are required to submit a formal application which can be downloaded via glenelg.vic.gov.au/Exhibitions and include exhibition outline, curriculum vitae, and images of work.
