Regional stars ready to shine on dancefloor

The countdown is on for this year’s Swinging with the Stars fundraiser, which will be held this Saturday night at The Barn. The excitement is building amongst the stars, who have been busy rehearsing and preparing to show off their moves.

This year’s stars include Kate Palm, Bryce Smith, Caroline Barr, Marian Hodson, Peter Loring, Stephen Holmes, Randall Jones and Macey Humphries. Swinging with the Stars has been the major fundraiser for Limestone Coast community foundation Stand Like Stone for over 10 years.

The money raised goes towards the running costs of the foundation so they can keep giving back to the community. Each dancer is also raising money for a subfund of their choice. This year the stars have been creative with their fundraisers, which included quiz nights, dinners, a pop-up fashion market, an Almost Full Monty, a high tea, a charity car wash, a boxing class and more.

Stand Like Stone chief executive Anne Kerr said the stars held a dress rehearsal at The Barn and she could see their hard work had paid off. “I think they’re a mixture of excitement and a few nerves as well probably kicking in,” she said. “They were amazing, it looked fantastic.”

Ms Kerr said while the fundraising aspect of the event was important, the event was ultimately about the eight amazing locals who dedicated 10 weeks of their time to fundraise and spread the word about the foundation. “Having them as our ambassadors is just brilliant,” she said. “The Hype Dance crew are fabulous. “The dancers behind the stars, I cannot thank them enough either, for giving up their Sundays for 10 weeks and more.”

The panel of judges includes Lisa Barker, who is the head of Ardlair School of Dancing, Liz Rymill who won the 2019 Swinging with the Stars and 2019 Swinging with the Stars contestant Rob Frances. Jason Scheidl will be the MC on the night. One star will be crowned best dancer and the dancer who raises the most money will receive the People’s Choice Award.

“We’re really looking forward to it, it’s going to be a great night,” Ms Kerr said. “We just cannot wait to see the dancers and to have Louise Adams play as well, it should be brilliant.”

There are still tickets left for those who want to attend and support their local celebrities. Tickets can be purchased from Chapman’s Newsagency or call 8725 3300.
