Region’s footballers selected for squad

After an impressive afternoon of football at the 2021 Limestone Coast Regional Carnival, many  local players have been rewarded selection in the Murray South East Zone  training squad.

The representative team will take on the state’s best at the South Australian Country Championships in Victor Harbor on Saturday, July 10 and Sunday, July 11.

All five South Australian Western Border Football League clubs will field players led by East Gambier.

Matt Willson, Jayden Eldridge, Nick Lock, Todd Lockwood and Mark Rumbelow ensure the team has a strong Bulldogs flavour.

The likes of Scott Enderl, Todd Reid, Jack Casey and Colby Munro hope their form dominating the WBFL season for South Gambier can translate to the big stage.

Clint Gallio, Jacob Carger and Sam Willis will have a familiar look wearing the same red, white and black colours of Millicent.

The lone West Gambier Roo is Lawry Bradley-Brown, while the North Gambier Tiger twins are Nick McInerney and Luke Powell.

Kalangadoo has a strong presence  with Mitch Lowe, Sam McManus, Tye McManus and Andrew Stone all named.

The only other Mid South Eastern  Football League clubs to feature multiple players are Mount Burr and Port  MacDonnell with Sam Wallis, Josh Wallis, Daron McElroy and Dylan Bromley.

Hatherleigh, Kongorong, Robe and Tantanoola are represented by Joe Ferguson-Lane, Harry Evans, Tom Wachtel and Jack Dawe respectively.

Tom Whittlesea, Curt McCarthy, Matt Leigh (Bordertown), Scott Merrett, Brad Bryant, Brad Crabb (Penola), Keenan Jacobs (Naracoorte), James Hinge, Jake McGrice (Mundulla), Lachie Jones (Lucindale) Tobin Cox, Josh Vandermeer, Tom Edwards, Jason McCarthy (Padthaway) and Seamus McMurray (Keith) are the selected KNTFL stars selected.

Penola favourite Adam Merrett will coach the strong team once again, while his assistants are Millicent’s Steve Duldig, MSEFL’s Ben McGregor and RMFL’s Wayne Knowles.

Preparations will kick off next Sunday from 12pm at Keith before the River Murray players are brought in and the squad is trimmed to 24.
