Uniting v West Gambier
Reigning premiers Uniting took on West Gambier on Saturday in the grand final rematch.
On the men’s side of the draw both sides shared the sets in the doubles despite a tough battle in the top doubles.
In the top doubles West Gambier’s George White and Brady Cook faced Uniting’s Andrew van den Hurk and Kobe Cole.
Uniting started strong in the opening set, holding off White and Cook to take the set 6-3.
After knocking at the door in the opening set White and Cook responded well in the second set, tying it up with a 6-4 win.
In the super tiebreaker both sides competed hard but the West boys had the momentum and took the match with a 10-7 win.
In the bottom doubles, Uniting’s Jace Maxwell and Mat Stark took on West’s Shaunn Robinson and Peyton Robinson.
Maxwell and Stark started strong in the first set, claiming it 6-3. In the second set West showed a lot more fight taking the set to a tiebreaker.
However, Maxwell and Stark were just too good as they were victorious in the tiebreaker.
In the singles both sides came away with sets as van den Hurk and White faced off.
After a tough loss in the doubles van den Hurk came back better in the singles as he added the set to Uniting’s total with a 6-0 win.
In the next singles Cook took on Maxwell. Maxwell put up a good fight but could not conquer Cook as he took the set 6-3.
In the bottom singles West and Uniting both took home a set as Robinson got the better of Cole in a 6-0 victory while Stark finished his day undefeated with a 6-0 win over Robinson.
In the ladies doubles West had a great day, taking two out of the three sets.
In the top doubles West’s Jess Stutley and Emily Jolley took on Uniting Tessa Megaw and Amanda McGee. Stutley and Jolley were dominant in the match, winning 6-2.
In the next doubles West picked up another set as Megaw and Jade Delaney took on Stutley and Joanne Sealey. Megaw and Delaney played well but could not close out the win as Stutley and Sealey came away with the set 6-4.
In the bottom doubles Uniting were able to get a set on the board Ashlea Dunn and Delaney got the 6-3 win over Jolley and Sealey.
In the singles Megaw was able to get a set on the board of Uniting as she defeated Stutley 6-0.
McGee and Jolley faced off in the singles in a hotly contested match. McGee got the better of Jolley as she edged out the victory in a tiebreaker.
In the bottom singles Ella Jolley took on Delaney and came out on top in her only set of the day, winning 6-1.
Both sides ended the day tied all tied up as Uniting came out on top winning on games 66-57.
Division 1
Mount Schank/Mil Lel/Mount Gambier v Glencoe
Glencoe headed to the Schank on Saturday to take on the Div 1 combined side.
In the men’s doubles it was fairly even as both sides came away with a win.
In the top doubles Glencoe’s Dylan Childs and Patrick Mitchell took on Mount Schank’s Will Boston and Alex Laube.
Childs and Mitchell continued their doubles form from the previous two weeks, winning the match in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.
In the bottom doubles the combined side were able to get a win on the board as Mount Gambier’s William Le Cornu and Mil Lel’s Lochie Arnold faced off against Glencoe’s James Braun and Will Maloney.
Both sides battled hard in the opening set with Le Cornu and Arnold coming out on top in a 6-3 win.
In the second set Braun and Maloney continued to fight hard but could not come up with the major result as Le Cornu and Arnold held them off to take the set 6-4 and the overall match.
In the singles Glencoe played well, taking three out of the four sets.
In the top singles, Childs and Boston faced off. Childs continued his momentum from the doubles and secured the set 6-2.
In the number two singles it was a tough day for Laube as he fell to Mitchell 6-0.
Le Cornu was able to get another set on the board in his singles as he came out on top against Braun, winning 6-2.
In the bottom singles Arnold and Maloney had a great match with Maloney getting the slight edge over Arnold as he won the match 6-3.
In the ladies doubles Glencoe were strong as they took home all three sets.
In the top doubles Glencoe’s Sarah Edwards and Giaan Ferguson took on Mil Lel’s Jorja Douglas and Kelsey Boneham. Edwards and Ferguson were too good, winning 6-0.
In the next doubles the Mil Lel ladies slightly improved as Douglas and Andrea Braun took on Edwards and Shae Delaney. Despite an improved performance the Glencoe ladies still took home the set, winning 6-4.
In the bottom doubles Glencoe finished strong with Ferguson and Delaney claiming the set over Boneham and Braun, 6-3.
In the ladies top singles Douglas and Edwards faced off with Edwards finishing the day strong with a 6-1 win.
Ferguson also finished her day on a high note with a 6-1 win over Boneham.
In the bottom doubles Delaney took on Mount Schank’s Sophie Boston. Boston was able to claim a few sets but it was not enough to get the win as she fell to Delaney 6-3.
Glencoe defeated Mount Schank/Mil Lel/Mount Gambier – 10-2.
Division 2
In division 2 Mount Gambier took on Suttontown/Glencoe with Gambier coming out on top 7-5.
West Blue took on West Red with the Blue side winning 9-3.
Division 3
Centrals/Mount Schank got the win over Mount Gambier, defeating them 10-2.
Uniting came away with a solid win over Mil Lel, winning 8-4.
Mixed Doubles
Uniting/Glencoe got a 4-2 win over Moorak Green while Moorak Gray defeated Suttontown 4-2.
Mount Schank got the win over Mount Gambier Blue, winning 4-2 while Mount Gambier Green defeated Glencoe on games.
Ladies Doubles
Reidy Park had a great 6-0 win over Mil Lel White while Mil Lel Green could not get the job done against Mount Schank, losing 4-2.
West Gambier had a solid win over Glencoe, taking the victory 6-0.
