Residents of all faiths pray for world peace

Around 150 people representing all faiths and backgrounds recently attended a local service to pray for peace in the world.

Christ Church Anglican Church held the peace service in their hall due to the inclement weather.

Candles were lit by many attending the service and prayers were offered by members of the Christian, Moslem, Hindu, Buddhist and Bahai faiths.

Mount Gambier Mayor Lynette Martin OAM and Grant District Mayor Kylie Boston both attended the service and lit candles.

The organiser Archdeacon Neil Fernando said he was pleased with the strong turnout representing different denominations and faiths in Mount Gambier and district.

Guest speaker social worker Tracy Wanganeen spoke about the importance of people attaining an inner peace in today’s busy and troubled world.

Father Fernando said he hoped the service would remind everyone in the community their prayers were needed particularly for people affected by current conflicts such as the Middle East and Ukraine.

The afternoon included a performance from children with a Sri Lankan background and a hymn led by Pastor Tim Frost of the Salvation Army who both sang and played the trumpet – but not at the same time.
