Resthaven Mount Gambier will celebrate Resthaven’s 90th anniversary on Friday with a day of activities for residents, friends and family.
Under the theme ‘Australiana’, Resthaven Mount Gambier will host Animals on the Move with Aussie Bush Babies, as well as holding a concert with Australian music and a barbecue lunch.
Resthaven Mount Gambier Residential Services Manager Belle Kerr said 90 years ago Resthaven opened its doors for the first time.
“We have come a long way since those early days, now offering residential care, services in the community and retirement living,” she said.
“We are one of only a select few aged care providers in Australia offering the full range of aged care service options.”
Ms Kerr said she and the Resthaven staff were looking forward to welcoming Resthaven executives and board president Mark Porter to the site for the celebrations.
“Among our residents are several who share a birth year with Resthaven – 1935 – and are also celebrating 90 years in 2025,” she said.
“It’s been great to speak with them about their memories of the past and hear from them the milestones that have stood out over their lifetimes.”
Resthaven Mount Gambier resident Max Kember said he considered the moon landing to be the biggest event to take place in the past 90 years and that technology has prompted the biggest changes.
When asked what the best thing he ever did was, Max said “getting a motorbike – it gave me freedom to come and go as I pleased”.
