Retail trade milestone
celebrated

A Millicent retailing icon has recently marked its 75th year of trading.

The forerunner to Foster’s Foodland opened its doors at Rendelsham on January 1, 1947.

The proprietor was respected retailer “Bob” Foster who died in 2014 at the age of 92.

Mr Foster opened his first store in his home town and later expanded his business interests to Millicent. His son Brian and grandson Dave continue to work in the business.

The current Foster’s Foodland premises in Kentish Place were opened in 1970 and the store is a significant local employer and purchaser of local meat and other produce. A large framed print of the first day of trading at Rendelsham greets customers at the main entrance.
