Riders raise festive funds

The ceremonious rumble of engines could be heard throughout the Limestone Coast on Saturday as motorbike and car enthusiasts revved into action for the annual Roundwood Solutions Limestone Coast Toy Run.

Baptist Care SA Area Manager John Merrett was pleased with the turnout, which raised more than $7000 to help families doing it tough during the festive season.

“At about 8am we were on the other side of town and the house literally shook,” Mr Merrett said.

“I have spoken to a few other people around here and they said they heard the rumble.”

Mr Merrett said the event, hosted by Baptist Church SA, collected donations to purchase gifts for families in need ahead of the Christmas period.

Over 170 motorbikes and cars from as far away as Adelaide gathered at the old Bunnings building and made their way along Mount Gambier’s main street before arriving at the Railway Lands.

“It was a great turnout as usual. Every year it seems to get better,” he said.

Mr Merrett said every cent donated went towards giving back to those in need.

“Even if you donate a dollar, you know where it is going and it will make a real difference,” he said.

“This event gives Baptist Care SA a chance to give back to the community.

“A lot of the other work that we do is behind the scenes, so this is our chance to actually get back to the community.

“Roundwood Solutions pitch in every year with money to go behind the scenes which is really important because every cent that we get can go to the gifts.”
