Limestone Coast bands will soon battle it out at a local brewery to earn a spot on the bill at the Adelaide Beer & barbecue Festival.
The ‘Untapped’ Battle of the Bands competition will be held at Little Rippa Brewery on Saturday, May 27.
Competitions will be held in four regional towns and one band will from each location will receive an all-expenses paid tour to play on the Adelaide Beer & barbecue Festival main stage alongside Dune Rats, The Bennies and 1300.
The four winners will play-off at the festival on Saturday, July 15 and an overall winner will be announced, who will receive $1000 and a spot on another Beer & barbecue produced bill.
Adelaide Beer & barbecue Festival director Gareth Lewis said Untapped was trialled in regions last year on very short notice after COVID subsided and it was a success.
“We saw some really cool bands that had not been to Adelaide before, so we decided to expand it this year and reach a bit further and wider and engage in regions we have not been before,” Mr Lewis said.
“So, with Little Rippa being a new kid on the block in Mount Gambier and a supporter of our festival we thought we would come and throw a bit of a party there.
“It is a big focus for us to promote South Australian music in general, so getting out and having some sort of touchstone and doing a mini version of what we do in Adelaide in each of those regions is really exciting to us.
“We really hope people in each region will come out and support the gigs, it is totally free for them, so come and have a few beers, support the breweries.”
The competition is open to bands throughout the South East of any genre who play original music.
“In theory, we would love to see bands that have not had the chance to play in Adelaide before that have played in their local areas or gigs around the regional areas,” Mr Lewis said.
Mr Lewis said the Adelaide Beer & barbecue Festival had always been well-supported by regional people and breweries and said he was looking forward to the festival.
“We cannot wait, it is ambitiously the biggest one we have ever thrown, it is one of those things that was a bit of a hobby, and it is now a year-long beast to put together,” he said.
“We hope as many people from the regions can come to Adelaide for that weekend and experience the event.”
