Road off limits during upgrade

Access between The Springs Road and Burrungle Road on the Princes Highway will be temporarily closed to all vehicles, including outside of working hours, for approximately two weeks for asphalt pavement works.

The upgrades are part of the $190m Princes Highway Corridor Upgrade program which are taking place from Meningie to the South Australian/Victorian border and are jointly funded by the Federal and State governments.

A spokesperson for the Department of Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) said light vehicle access to The Springs Road via local roads will not be impacted.

“Following completion of this stage of work, access between the Princes Highway and Burrungule Road will be closed to all vehicles for approximately two weeks while remaining works are completed,” the spokesperson said.

“Detours will be in place throughout the duration of works. The Princes Highway will remain open in both directions at all times.

“Outside of working hours (Monday to Saturday between the hours of 6.30am – 6pm), lane restrictions on the Princes Highway will be removed. Speed restrictions will remain in place until all works are complete in late October 2024, weather permitting.

“Local school bus routes and stops will operate as usual. On site traffic controller will guide buses through the work zone.

“Please plan your trips, be cautious around workers, follow the speed limits, signs/traffic control devices and drive safely to the temporary conditions.”

The DIT spokesperson said they appreciate the works have been ongoing for an extended period of time.

“We have experienced several program impacts throughout the upgrade, including inclement weather and contractor availability,” the spokesperson said.

“We would like to again thank you for your patience and understanding while these critical upgrade works are undertaken.”
