West Gambier v East Gambier

West Gambier faced off against East Gambier in a Western Border Football League Round 16 encounter, as the Roos looked to secure the 2023 minor premiership.

The match unfolded as a tale of two sides on opposite ends of the scoreboard, with West Gambier securing a resounding victory over their cross-town counterparts East Gambier.

The game commenced with West Gambier asserting its dominance from the opening bounce.

East Gambier had no answers and were left struggling to keep the Roos forward line at bay.

At the end of the first quarter, West Gambier had already established a substantial lead, with the score reading 32 to 4 in its favour.

West Gambier continued its impressive performance in the second quarter, with East Gambier still having little answers.

By halftime, West Gambier had extended its lead 52 to 11 getting one hand on the minor premiership.

Despite the Roos’ pressure, East Gambier refused to back down and managed to show a good deal of fight in the third quarter.

The Doggies managed to find some openings in West Gambier’s defence and put a few goals on the board.

At the end of the third quarter West Gambier still remained comfortably in the lead 68 to 24.

West Gambier went into the final term with a 44-point lead meaning the last quarter was a mere formality.

East Gambier booted a few more goals in the final term, however it was not enough and was still outscored by West Gambier.

West Gambier ultimately secured a convincing victory with a final score of 83 to 37.

West Gambier best for the day was Brandon Newton, Thomas Holmes, Andrew Stone, Kyle Giddings, Lawrence Bradley-Brown, Aden Pfitzner.

For East Gambier, John Forster, Giancarlo Cooper, Thomas McCourt, Nicholas Lock, Reece Lillecrapp, Keenan Dwyer.

West Gambier’s supporters celebrated a comprehensive win which secured the minor premiership and will now head into finals having not lost since round five.

While East Gambier finished the season with a wooden spoon it has shown some promising signs this season which it will hope to build on next year.
