Rubbish burn

FIRE services were called to a blaze near Merino on Thursday, believed to be the result of a rubbish burn.

The fire spread through paddocks and into the reserve at the Merino Cemetery.

Incident Controller, Henty Captain Damien Henty-Anderson said ground appliances with air support “pulled it up” before it crossed the Henty Creek.

Three large trees on the affected private property were fully compromised by fire (one pictured, above) and had to be removed.

“We had Henty, Digby, Glenorchy, Merino, Sandford, Casterton, Ardachey, Grassdale, Bahgallah, Hillgay Settlers, Dunrobin, Tahara and Tarrenlea brigades and FFMV brought a dozer and a heal pof slip-ons … they worked really well with us, there were crews out of Casterton, I do not know where else, but the whole team were really cohesive with each other and we stopped what could have been a lot worse,” Cpt Henty-Anderson said.
