Hundreds of recreational runners are again expected to descend on Robe at the end of summer.
Given the huge success of the inaugural 2023 Robe Run event, the Adelaide Trail Runners have decided to host the annual Robe Run again in February.
The runners will skirt Guichen Bay and head as far as Long Beach.
Robe District Council tourism and events coordinator Camille Lehmann said this event has been a great addition to Robe’s event calendar.
“It attracts a different visitor demographic in comparison to other events held in Robe,” she wrote in a report to council.
“The event offers a full 42.2km marathon, 21.1km half marathon, 14km run and a 5km fun run.
“The 2023 Robe Run event saw 453 standard entries and 45 local football entries into the different course options, which was well beyond the initial goal of about 200 entries.
“From the 453 entries, 25% of these were visiting Robe for the first time and most entrants were travelling with 1-2 other people, seeing this event attract approximately 1000 people to town.
“This event brought great participation and visitation to Robe earlier this year, with Spendmapp data showing there was a 14% increase in spending on the day of this event, in comparison to the year prior.”
According to Ms Lehmann, a post event debrief was conducted with the event organiser earlier in the year.
“The main issue identified from the 2023 event was the bottleneck issue at the start of two courses, and in preparation for the return of the Robe Run event in 2024, a budget allocation was made in the 2023/24 Events Budget to allow for a possible road closure,” she said.
Ms Lehmann has also recommended to her council that further in-kind support be provided to the Adelaide Trail Runners by waiving the hire fees for the Robe Institute and foreshore.
