Mount Gambier’s medi-hotel has been playing an important role in the region’s fight to stay COVID-19 free.
Limestone Coast Local Health Network Chief Executive Officer Ngaire Buchanan said a total of 37 guests had successfully quarantined at the hotel since it opened on August 21.
The medi-hotel is being used for essential travellers, cross-border residents who receive an exemption and locals who cannot safely quarantine at their normal place of residence.
The facility is staffed by 23 people, including hotel and nursing staff, who have received specialised training.
“The medi-hotel is subject to strict quarantine protocols,” Ms Buchanan said.
“Hotel workers are fully trained in the use of appropriate personal protective equipment.
“Our nurses conduct regular health checks on medi-hotel guests. SAPOL, ADF and security services provide a 24-hour presence.”
“The medi-hotel in Mount Gambier is an important and positive step towards ensuring we continue to do everything we can to stop the spread of COVID-19 in our region.”
