Safety on and off road on Limestone Coast

Limestone Coast Police have issued a reminder for members of the public to drive safely on and off road this summer.

On Friday, December 27, Limestone Coast Police, with the assistance of National Parks and Wildlife officers, conducted road safety operations throughout Beachport, Robe and Nora Creina.

The focus of the operation was to promote safety of holiday makers in the vast beach and sand dune networks in these areas.

A SAPOL spokesperson said police conducted speed detection and drug and alcohol screening, both within the dune network and on major roads transiting the area.

“In total, police conducted 370 alcotests and five drug wipes resulting in 22 expiations, four defects and three expiations,” the spokesperson said.

“Pleasingly the vast majority of people were doing the right thing and enjoying the area’s many attractions responsibly.

“Police will continue to provide a highly visible presence in the area throughout this week, with safe vehicle use both on and off road being a key focus.

“People frequenting these areas are reminded to use only marked tracks and remain respectful of the environment and other people in the area.”

Local police would like to remind people that the speed limit on the beaches is 40 kmh, and this reduces to 25 kmh when within 50 metres of a pedestrian.

Members of the public are also reminded that a number of Dry Areas will be in place in both Beachport and Robe during New Year’s Eve.
