South Gambier v Millicent
Millicent delivered a dominant performance against South Gambier in an impressive display from the reigning premiers.
Millicent emerged victorious with a commanding 29 point win, with the final scores South Gambier 69 (10.9) and Millicent 98 (15.8).
Millicent showed up to Blue Lake Sports Park with intent to control the match.
The Saints set the tone with a dominant first quarter scoring 33 points while holding South Gambier to just three points.
South Gambier fought back in the second quarter as Millicent’s early lead was brought back to just nine points at half time.
In the third quarter Millicent continued to exert dominance, fighting back to extend the lead further with an excellent team effort, kicking six goals for the quarter.
In the final quarter, Millicent fought off a late South Gambier charge.
Both teams continued to score with the Saints’ third quarter efforts providing crucial to their eventual victory.
South Gambier’s three final term goals was equalled by Millicent to secure the Saints the 30 point victory.
Despite South Gambier’s best efforts, they were unable to overcome Millicent’s relentless pressure.
The young side has proved they have a lot of promise, challenging some of the best teams in the league.
However, Millicent was too good for them on the day.
The best players for South Gambier were Elliott Fisher, Mitchell Sims, Mitchell Harrold, Nelson Forbes and Sam McTaggart whose individual contributions and efforts were commendable, even in the face of a strong Millicent side.
For Millicent, Kade Bradley, Clinton Gallio, Jacob Carger, Sam Waring, Sam Willis and Kade Varcoe were standout performers.
Willis was once again a standout in the forward line booting four goals, and South Gambier’s Fisher was important for his side kicking three.
Millicent’s dominant performance in its Round 7 clash against South Gambier showcased its superiority as a team.
The Saints secured a well-deserved victory, while South Gambier fought well against a more experienced side.
Next round will see Millicent face off against North Gambier and South Gambier look for their second win of the season against Casterton Sandford.
