School leader’s life honoured

Kangaroo Inn Area School (KIAS) is mourning the recent death in Adelaide of its foundation headmaster Rex Hosking at the age of 94.

He was at the helm at the beginning of 1963 when 230 students were enrolled.

His death comes on the eve of the 60th anniversary celebrations for KIAS which will be held on September 29.

Mr Hosking married into the local Varcoe clan and his history of this notable local family called “From Cornwall to the Outback” was published in 1987.

The Hosking family also had a holiday home for many years at Beachport.

In retirement, Mr Hosking was a State Library tour guide, lectured in geology at the University of the Third Age and assembled a private collection of 21,000 books in his home.
