Scudds claims championship

The Millicent Bowls Club last week hosted its men’s veteran singles, with all games being played to the first player in each game reaching 21 shots up to win.

John Scudds and Rod Gibbs won their way into the grand final, which had to be held over til the following day due to the length of the games in the lead up.

When it came to the final, by the fifth end the scores were Scudds 4 shots to Gibbs 3.

Scudds then took a small lead and at the 9th end the score was Scudds 8 shots to Gibbs 4, however on the 13th end Gibbs was able to take the lead by scoring a maximum four shots to lead by one shot.

On the next end Scudds was able to retrieve that 4 shots and once again was sitting a shot up.

This continued right through to the 24th end with the score sitting at 20 shots to Scudds and Gibbs on 19, with both players able to win the game on the next end.

Scudds however scored two shots on the last end to give him the title of Veterans’ Champion for season 2022/23.

Scudds’ wife Lyn currently holds the women’s title, making it the first time in the club’s history that a husband and wife both hold the title of Veteran Champions in the same year.
