Residents and staff at a Millicent aged care facility certainly stepped up to the challenge of raising funds for those experiencing homelessness.
As part of National Homelessness Week, staff and residents at Boneham Aged Care Services took part in the Walk A Mile In My Boots fundraising challenge.
Over the course of the week, staff and residents joined together to literally step out and step up to the walking challenge.
In and around the aged care facility was a sea of orange for the week as staff and residents walked a mile, or more, for the cause.
Their target was to raise $600, but they exceeded this, making a generous contribution of more than double their goal.
At final count more than $1300 was donated from online donations and money tin collections at the facility.
Boneham Wellbeing Program coordinator Leica Sims said the campaign was very well supported.
“Our residents and staff really threw themselves into the Walk a Mile in My Boots fundraising challenge,” she said.
“Much of Millicent will have seen them walking around Boneham in their orange fluoro’s.
“All proceeds go to support homelessness services, which is so very important this year in such a bitterly cold winter.
“Thank you to our residents and staff for supporting those less fortunate than themselves.”
All funds go to the Hutt St Centre, who have been supporting people at risk of or experiencing homelessness in South Australia.
According to 2021 Australian Bureau of Statistics Census data, more than 7000 people experience homelessness.
Funds enable the Hutt St Centre to remain a place of connection and support as well as provide services to end homelessness.
