Service over and above

Service over and above

Retired police officer Dave Thomas, of Robe, has been awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in the 2021 Queen’s Birthday Honours announced on Monday. His citation states his OAM was awarded for service to the community in a range of roles. After around four decades in uniform, he retired to the seaside several years ago.

At the time of his retirement, Mr Thomas was officer-in-charge of Naracoorte Police with the rank of senior sergeant. A particular passion for Mr Thomas has been the Lions service club organisation and he has held senior leadership roles at district level and with the Robe and Naracoorte clubs.

For the past seven years, Mr Thomas has been a volunteer driver and Telecross caller with the Australian Red Cross. While living in Naracoorte, he was involved groups such as the swimming club and road safety committee.
