The “woolly mammoth” appearance of Tantanoola footballer Marc Roberts will come to an end on Saturday.
After five years of growing a mullet hairstyle and a full beard, all will be shaved off to benefit the charity Do it for Dolly Day.
The head shave will be quite a drawcard at the end of the match against reigning premiers Kalangadoo.
The home team is aiming for a hattrick of wins by inflicting the third consecutive loss on the Magpies.
The Tigers will also be wearing distinctive sky-blue socks.
Marc is pleased that his head shaving is part of the Tantanoola Football and Netball Club’s program for Do It for Dolly Day.
“I have been thinking about doing this for a couple of years,” Marc said.
“I have not been able to play this year as I got injured a week before the season.
“I am grateful to my sister Ffion who has organised the day as well as a big raffle.
“We will have an auction to see who gets to make the first cut of my hair.”
Marc and Ffion have put up a target of $1500 and online donations are approaching that mark.
Do it for Dolly Day is a time dedicated to bringing the community together, spreading kindness and uniting in taking a stand against bullying.
The annual fundraiser across Australia raises funds for Dolly’s Dream which was established by Kate and Tick Everett following the loss of their 14-year-old daughter Dolly to suicide.
The goal of the couple is to change the culture of bullying and prevent other families going through the same experience.
Donations will help raise much-needed funds for Dolly’s Dream and support their anti-bullying initiatives and programs that are helping to empower and educate the community about the power of kindness and bullying prevention.
