Shield defence

Forty-five South East veteran golfers travelled to Casterton for the annual challenge shield.

The group took the greens against 36 Glenelg district players and retained the shield with an average score of 32.84 versus Glenelg 29.55.

The course was in good shape considering there has been no irrigation on fairways and also no rain lately.

The greens were good and some nice scores were recorded.

The A grade winner was Barry Turnbull from Bordertown 39 points with Mount Gambier’s Mike Atwell on 38.

The B grade runner up was Dave Evans from Mount Gambier with 35, with the C grade runner up Graham Pilgrim from Bordertown on 35.

Mount Gambier’s Rob Perryman scored the nearest the pin on hole seven.

It was a great day out on a fine autumnal day.

The group will visit Bordertown on Monday.
