Show events in full bloom

The Penola Show’s craft and flower sections will bloom this season as they go ahead in a modified format.

The Local Images Gallery will host the exhibits during the month of October despite the annual Penola Show not proceeding due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Penola Show Society committee member Kerry DeGaris said entries were due by the end of September for those still wishing to exhibit.

“The craft section consisting of patchwork, dressmaking, general craft, knitting, crochet and embroidery will exhibit for the entire month of October,” she said.

“There is also a section for children’s craft which we encourage parents to consider as something for children to do during school holidays.

“The flower section will start on October 8, with each Friday of October displaying a different floral category.”

Mrs DeGaris said the flowers would be displayed within the Local Images Gallery over the following weekend.

“Both craft and flower judging will occur on the afternoon of Friday, October 1 with a people’s choice award also occurring over the month of October. The winner will be announced at the end of the month,” she said.

“There will be no formal registration of exhibits and no entry fee, just turn up on the nominated day with your exhibits at Local Images Gallery and the stewards will arrange for your entries to be submitted.”

With everything going to plan the schedule will kick off on October 8 with Tuberous or Bulbous, 1 cut or bloom, followed by one garden cut or bloom – October 15; Iris (any variety), 1 cut or bloom – October 22 and Large Flowered rose – 1 stem, Floribunda rose – 1 stem or cut and bowl of flowering roses on October 29.
