With the annual Spring shows being held across the region from next month, some handy tips for winning the coveted blue ribbons for roses have been shared with prominent retailer Christine Agnew.
“Your roses would have had their annual winter pruning a few months ago,” Ms Agnew said.
“Now they need a rose-specific food.
“As the weather becomes warmer, roses may also need regular watering as well.”
Going on past years, more than 100 roses are expected to compete for the $500 prize for the most outstanding rose in the upcoming Millicent Show.
It is the 15th consecutive year that McCourt’s Garden Centre of Millicent has made a $500 voucher available to the winner.
Ms Agnew is the proprietor and said her Davenport Street business was again pleased to support the Millicent Show in this way.
“It is a great community event and it brings people to Millicent,” Ms Agnew said.
“All the Millicent businesses benefit from the annual show.”
Millicent has some the best roses around due to good soil and good water.
Meanwhile, all is go for the 147th Show which begins on Thursday, November 8.
