Sides shape up for Shield finals

Mil Lel v South Gambier

Mil Lel will be looking for back-to-back wins on Saturday as they take on South Gambier at Frew Park in Barber Shield action.

Heading into the final two games of the season, Mil Lel has a small margin of error as they currently sit fourth on the ladder with a 4.7 point difference between the fifth placed Doggies.

Mil Lel cannot afford to drop any more games if they want to make it to the finals.

South, on the other hand, have a very slim chance of making the finals as they currently sit last on the ladder.

Mil Lel will be looking to continue their form from last game against the Tigers where they had a great hard fought team victory with a combination of big performances at the crease and with the ball.

Similar to Mil Lel, South will want to recreate the success they had last round as they had a big performance in their second batting innings.

The Dees made 280 runs – the most they have made all season.

Mil Lel captain Jack Miller is looking forward to the challenge of going up against South.

“Looking at the South game coming up we’re hoping to continue this form,” he said.

“A big push late in the season is required if we want to be successful.

“South will question us but with our tails up at the moment it’ll be good to have a crack at another win.”

PRESSURE ON: The pressure is on Tim Young and North Sportsmans as they fight to keep their top spot position on the ladder.

Penola v North Sportsmans

North Sportsmans will head to Penola on Saturday as they look to bounce back after a tough loss last round.

Both sides will be on the rebound this week after dropping points before the Australia Day break.

The pressure will be on the Tigers to hold the number one spot on the ladder with only 3.2 points separating them and West Gambier.

The Eagles will also have a bit of pressure on them as they too need to keep getting wins on the board as their spot in the finals is not safe.

These sides last met in round two in a one day match where the Tigers took the win after scoring 107 and holding the Eagles to 77.

To come out with a win in this game the Tigers are going to need Elliott Fisher to have a big performance.

Fisher was solid last round but only batted one innings.

Penola will need to improve on their bowling which proved a struggle for them last game.

After being bowled out early on day two the Eagles struggled to stop the Doggies which eventually resulted in their defeat.

This should be an interesting game as these are two very good sides who are fighting for a solid finals position.

FIGHTING FOR FIRST: Justin de Jong and West Gambier will be looking for a win to help move them to first place as they face the Doggies on Saturday.

East Gambier v West Gambier

East Gambier and West Gambier will face off this Saturday at Allan Scott Park as the Doggies fight to get back into the top four.

This will be a very important game for East as a loss this round will make it difficult to make the finals.

The Doggies currently sit fifth on the ladder while the Roos sit second.

West also have a lot to play for as a win would help move them into first place on the ladder.

Both sides are coming off solid wins last round and will be looking to keep the form going on Saturday.

The Doggies got the better of the Roos in the last meeting so West will be out for redemption after that tough loss in round two.

Since that loss, West has had a clean sheet, not dropping a game.

For the Doggies to succeed they will need another big performance from Connor Little who has been in great form early in 2025, registering a 64 run innings against Penola and playing a great game in the Doggies Sungold Cup match.

West’s bowlers Sam Willis and Bray Stephenson will need to be at their best like last round if they want to come away with win six for the season.
