Sinkhole gin a winner

ALimestone Coast gin has been honoured at the 2024 Tasting Australia Spirit Awards held in Adelaide.

Sinkhole Gin Distillery received a silver and bronze medal at the awards.

Established in 2018 and located at the Kilsby Sinkhole near Moorak, Sinkhole Contemporary Australian Gin and Limoncello Gin is made using local Limestone filtered water and native and local botanicals and blended by distiller Chris Cooley.

Owners Jo Feast and Graham Kilsby were thrilled with the recognition.

“We are so proud that our gin was enjoyed by the judges and see the win as a true testament to Chris and our team who craft exceptional spirits that captivate the palate and leave a lasting impression,” they said.

The Sinkhole Contemporary Australian Gin attracted the judges’ attention for the “lingering taste” and use of native locally grown Muntrie berries to bring the flavour to life.

The Limoncello Gin received a silver medal and was described by the judges as “fresh, zesty and well balanced”.

The Australian distilling industry is one of the fastest growing and most diverse in the world.

The national awards aim to recognise ingenuity and fortitude while celebrating the industry’s achievements.

The entries were assessed by a panel of expert Australian judges selected by Tasting Australia Spirit Awards head judge Ollie Margan – owner of Adelaide’s Maybe Mae – and multiple other hospitality venues across the city centre.

Mr Margan has been involved in the Tasting Australia Spirit Awards since inception and led the panel throughout the judging process.

Renowned Tasmanian distiller Bill Lark remains patron of the awards.
