LEADING from the front, Rick Smith and Shadow took out every major A Grade individual and team accolade in Casterton Polocrosse Club’s sixth consecutive top-grade win at it’s home tournament.
The A Grade Cats – Smith, Darren, Hamish and Justin Carlin, Harry Boyle and Bowes Kelly – had a big weekend, despite the heat and lined up against the talented Corio in Sunday’s final.
The opening chukkas saw Corio with no answers for the local side, the Cats dominating the play and number ones Smith and Boyle making no mistake with pin-point deliveries down the field, finding goals time and again.
Despite a few small come-back attempts by the visitors, the Cats piled on the heat in the last two terms to take out a 14-goal win.
For their outstanding weekend, Smith was named Best Number One in the A Grade, Shadow awarded Best Horse and the pair also collected the award for the best combination for the tournament.
Hamish Carlin’s success in cutting off opposition scorers also earned him Best Number Three.
