With the Australian Open finally under way, the nation’s attention turns to the courts and the Mount Gambier and District Tennis Association world is also heating up following the Christmas break.

Fast4 tennis returned last week and it was great to see all the courts full with some new faces as everyone enjoyed the balmy evening at Olympic Park.

In the first match, last season’s runners up Too Cole for School took on Mount Schank.

Mount Schank struggled a little last season but have certainly started the season off in fine form, snatching four sets to two victory over Too Cole for School.

Sophie Boston stood out for the winners, securing victories in all three of her sets. David Cole fought hard for the losers, earning himself two close wins.

Mil Lel White started the evening on fire, securing three of the first four sets against Double Dutch, but the Dutch came back strong and almost snatched victory, going down 4-3 in the deciding last set of the night.

All contests were tight in this one and it was a great all-round performance from Mil Lel White that got them over the line.

Newcomers ‘Court Jesters’, with a team of vast and little experience, put in a great performance first up to take down Suttontown four sets to two.

It was great to see a lot of new faces in this match up, including the father-son combination of Sam and Zahn Batty.

The highlight was young Zahn securing his first victory, teaming up with Sergio Cesaro to defeat Nathan Beck and Jo Millar 4 -2.

The experience of Sergio was the big difference for Court Jesters, securing wins in all three of his sets. Jo Millar tried very hard for Suttontown, with a couple of comprehensive victories for her team, but it was not quite enough, with Suttontown going down 2-15 to 4-17.

In the last match, The Violet Crumbles took on Mil Lel Green. Mil Lel Green started well with CJ Arnold and Lachlan Patzel securing a win over Eamonn Carey and Andrew Le Cornu 4-2, but it was mostly downhill after that for Mil Lel.

Although the team did not crumble, Eamonn Carey unfortunately succumbed to an injury, which will see him miss a couple of rounds.

However, it did not hinder his team’s performance, as they still went onto win 4-20 to 2-12.

Results: Mount Schank def. Too Cole for School 4-21 to 2-14; Mil Lel White def. Double Dutch 4-19 – 2-19; Court Jesters def. Suttontown 4-17 to 2-15; The Violet Crumbles def. Mil Lel Green 4-20 to 2-12.
