South scores big victory on the road

South Indians won big over Millicent Bandits away from home on Saturday. The home team was left stunned after South scored 10 runs in the opening inning. Hits to Hayden Battye, Bruce Morale – two including a home run – Dean Hamilton, Ben Morale and Tarkyn Morale were all batted in to hand the Indians a match-winning lead.

They added three more in the second dig before the Bandits got on the board. But Millicent only added a solitary run before South fired again.

Two runs were added in the third after the first two batters picked base on balls and batted in by Travis Lockwood’s long drive to left field. The Bandits responded in the even dig with six runs after they picked up four walks, a hit batter and three safe-hits.

South added three more in the fourth, while Millicent backed up its previous effort with hat-trick of its own. The Bandits’ defence held strong in the top of the fifth not allowing a run for the Indians before their batters added two more.

South made amends for its lapse by adding a further five runs in the top of the sixth when four consecutive safe-hits from Ben Morale, Lockwood, Alex Lewis and Jesse Balshaw plus a walk by Tarkyn Morale saw all those batters cross the home plate.

The Indians then proceeded to shut the game down as they finished off Millicent with three up three down and win 23-12. Tigers cruised to an easy win over Federal on Saturday night at Blue Lake Sports Park.

Federal was held scoreless and only recording two safe-hits for the game. In the bottom of the first, Garth Ransom hit safely and scored on an error. The lead progressed in the third dig Hayden Jones drilled a ball to short stop which forced an error and was batted in by Ransom’s three bagger right-field.

With two out Brayden Morton hit safely to centre-field and was batted home by Jones on the fifth and crossed home plate again two digs later after his long shot to left-field was batted in again from the latter.

Tigers’ final two runs were added in the eighth when both Matt Thompson and Karl Ransom found them on base from errors and scored on a wild throw Ransom and a hit by Tyler Horrigan respectively.

The victors enjoyed six more safe-hits than Federal.
