CHARLOTTE RICE – SWDFNL – Netball
MID-30s temperatures for mid-April netball and football are an odd phenomenon this far south and while the players felt it, the A Grade Giants were the tougher for it, talking their first win of the season by two goals over Cavendish.
Bec van Kalken took best-on honours for the home side, denying opportunity after opportunity for the Bloods’ mid-courters and delivering to her attacking end with pin-point accuracy.
Saturday’s A Reserve match proved to be an equally-tough contest.
Cavendish fielded a strong and consistent line-up, applying pressure across the entire court.
Defenders Chloe and Tania faced a demanding task against the sharp accuracy of Cavendish’s shooters, while the midcourt worked tirelessly to transition the ball forward and deliver quality feeds into the shooting circle.
Although the final score was not in Dartmoor’s favour, the team remains positive, viewing the game as a valuable learning opportunity to refine the play and return stronger in the next round.
15 & Unders
SATURDAY was a hard game for the Under 15s due to the hot, beaming sun.
The home-side girls worked hard across the four quarters in excruciating heat.
Fatigue ran through the team quite quickly so the rolling subs was a great asset to be able to give a well-earned rest.
Saturday’s line-up was minus Izzy Smith – a key goalie – but both Chloe Pratt and Dekotah Ellis worked hard to reward the defenders, despite barely working in the goal circle together for quite some time.
Although scores did not match where the Giants wanted to be, with more time and hard work, we can draw the scoring line closer by the next time we play with better netball weather conditions.
