Sparkling success for Penola wine

Alocal wine brand is bubbling with excitement after being recognised nationally with an award.

Cuvée-Co Wines won the 2025 National Best Place Bubbly Award presented by The Bubbles Review, based initially on a nomination in a regional or metro state category, with public voting to decide the winners.

Cuvée-Co Wines is family owned, utilising Limestone Coast cool climate fruit to create six Australian Sparkling Wines which are now available in Penola, at the recently opened cellar door and tasting room, POPO (Penola’s Old Post Office).

Cuvée-Co Wines owner Peta Baverstock said being named The Best Bubbly Place in Australia was a “complete surprise”.

“Even the nomination was a wonderful nod to the venue, and a moment to stop and reflect on what I have created in the past year,” she said.

The POPO space was opened in January 2024 as a tasting room to showcase Mrs Baverstock’s exclusively multi award winning sparkling wine range, Cuvée-Co Wines.

“The venue may not be as opulent as some of the other amazing nominees, but the 150-year-old building has a lot of charm and is flooded with natural light, and I knew it could become a joyous (sparkling) space,” Mrs Baverstock said.

“I am much smaller on all scales, including the 50m2 footprint of the building, however staying small my focus remains tight, and I have created POPO, in Penola to be a tasting room destination.”

Mrs Baverstock has also been recognised as a finalist in the Vin de Champagne Awards four times, named in the Top 50 Wine Makers Young Gun in 2019, and twice winner of the Best Young Sparkling Wine of Show, 2021 and 2024 at the Australian Sparkling Wine Show.
