The speed limit on the approach to the Southend township will not be changed by a State Government agency in the short term and will remain at 80kph.
The matter was raised at the July monthly Wattle Range Council meeting by councillor Richard Cassidy.
In reply, Engineering Services director Peter Halton said the issue had been raised previously.
Mr Halton said a survey of local residents had been undertake and there was support for a reduction.
However, Mr Halton said it was not supported by the Department of Infrastructure and Transport as its personnel said there was not enough development in that area at this time.
“There is no point in doing another review,” Mr Halton said.
He said there were proposals for further residential developments in that area.”
Meanwhile, Cr John Drew raised the matter of the speed limit on the thoroughfare commonly known as the Tantanoola/Kongorong Road.
Cr Drew chooses to use that route to get to Mount Gambier on account of the extensive roadworks and delays on the Princes Highway at Burrungule.
He said the Tantanoola/Kongorong Road had signs indicating 110kph was the maximum speed while another read 100kph. Mr Halton said he checked with departmental officials and the limit was indeed 110km.
