As the sun dips below the Limestone Coast horizon tonight, ghosts, goblins, and mini superheroes will emerge from their homes, ready for the annual Halloween tradition of trick-or-treating.
Halloween night has certainly caught on here in the region, with more neighbourhoods in the Limestone Coast dressing up in eerie lights and decorations to welcome little ghouls and witches.
The night is filled with spooky sounds, endless giggles, and the occasional scare – but all in good fun!
Halloween’s roots trace back over 2000 years to an ancient Celtic festival called Samhain, celebrated at the end of the harvest season.
For the Celts, this time marked the boundary between the living and the dead, with belief that spirits could cross into the mortal world.
In later centuries, with Christian influences, it became “All Hallows’ Eve,” the night before All Saints’ Day.
The holiday eventually travelled across the ocean to America, evolving into the costume-wearing, candy-filled celebration we know today, before spreading across the world.
From spooky lawn displays to “haunted” houses, the Limestone Coast community has fully embraced the spirit of Halloween.
So, if you hear a knock tonight, grab the candy bowl and get ready to be spooked – the ghosts and ghouls are out and about, ready for a Halloween to remember.
