Stage set for blockbuster opening round

North Gambier v East Gambier

North Gambier and East Gambier will kick off the 2025 Limestone Coast Football Netball League season under the lights of Vansittart Park on Friday night.

With the new season getting under way anything could happen tomorrow night as the Doggies will look different from last season while the Tigers will build off last year with a fairly similar team.

Going head to head last season the Tigers got the better of the Doggies all three times, downing them by an average margin of 57 points.

At home last season the Tigers were solid with a record of 5-3 which will definitely be something they would like to improve on this year.

For the Doggies, this season they will be hungry for a win more than ever after going winless last year.

Despite having that hunger this season I do not think the Doggies will be able to compete with the talent and experience that this Tigers team, leading North to come out with a win tomorrow night.

Penola v Millicent

Penola are set to make club history on Saturday when they host Millicent in their first game in the LCFNL.

It will be interesting to see how the Saints go into the 2025 season after a tough grand final loss followed by the departures of several top senior players.

It will be good to see how the arrivals of Brady Gibbs, Sam McManus, Dylan Bromley and Jack Verbena play in the side as the team will look very different to last year.

When it comes to the Eagles it will be good to see Jayden Eldridge and Brodie Foster back in the league as they bring abundant experience playing against these teams which should prove handy.

Playing in front of a home crowd I believe Penola will come out and make a statement with a round one win over the Saints this Saturday.

Casterton Sandford v West Gambier

The reigning premiers West Gambier will travel across the border on Saturday as they take on Casterton Sandford to kick off their 2025 campaign.

The Roos will head into this game having the Cats’ number as they beat them in every match up last season.

West will also be full of confidence heading to Casterton with fond memories of the ground after winning last year’s premiership at Island Park.

The Cats will welcome the addition of Colby Munro, who comes to Casterton following a great stint with Port Mac where he was a threat in front of goal, kicking 32 last year and 52 the year prior.

He will definitely be someone the Roos will be looking to keep quiet on Saturday.

West heads into the season with a similar team to last season, with the departures of only a few players.

With that in mind they should have a similar game plan to last year which helped them win the flag.

Coming off a premiership last season I think the Roos will have to make a statement win on Saturday and come away with a victory in Casterton.
