Council makes bid for star attraction

Leading entertainer and recording artist Kasey Chambers will perform in Millicent in November if a senior Wattle Range Council staff member has her way.

Development services director Emma Clay has made a cryptic reference to Kasey Chambers in her report to tonight’s monthly council meeting in Millicent.

While not explicitly naming her, Ms Clay refers to negotiations with an award-winning Millicent High School old scholar and country music star with family ties to Southend.

Ms Clay said the proposed and yet-to-be-confirmed concert would be a paid and ticketed event and would be underwritten by council as much as $6500.

She said such a concert would form part of the council-sponsored program to mark the 150th anniversary of Millicent.

Her request is accompanied by a recommendation that council allocates $20,000 to the program for the Millicent 150 events.
