Stark savours moment

The 2022 Mid South Eastern Football League Grand Final was played in front of a large crowd and anticipation was high with the two powerhouse sides in Hatherleigh and Kalangadoo.

The Magpies emerged on top in the 2022 premiership battle and the players and supporters were ecstatic when the final siren sounded, marking a big win by 61 points.

It was a real dog fight in the first quarter with both teams testing each other out.

After the first break the Magpies ran to space and broke apart the game which Kalangadoo coach Kevin Stark said was the key to cementing the big win.

“Territory was key and we just knew that it was one of those days where the game would not be the hard and fast game plan we had all year and (Hatherleigh) would have been the same,” he said.

“With gaining space the next move was get the ball forward to dangerous places up and force them wide.

“The ball was forced into attack by creating the space.

“We were happy with our one-on-one match ups and we knew that we had to make the most of opportunities.”

The small brigade of the Magpies made a difference and that was attributable to the return of Michael Krieger.

“We were blessed that we lost the second semi, because Michael missed that week and came back to kick six out of the eleven goals,” he said.

“But also credit to the other forwards.”

Stark said the full team effort was great, as everyone contributed to the win.

“We are happy with the spread of effort right from the youngest to the oldest,” he said

Stark also made mention that he loved the club and the atmosphere and has not made any call on coaching in 2023 but will play football.

“The club was focused on winning the flag this year and getting that done,” he said.
